History of Mount Abu
The history of the only hill town of the desertland of Rajasthan is quite strange just like its location in midst of desertscape. History say this picturesque hill town was a part of the Chuahan Kingdom of Rajasthan and its reputation revolved around being a summer resort of the Rajput kings dominating that region.
During the British Rule, the hill town was leased by the British Government from the then Maharaja of Sirohi who wanted to make it the headquarter of the resident to Rajputana. Since British era, this lovely hill town offered cooling effect to the sun baked British soldiers who wanted to run away from the dust-ridden plains of Rajasthan and rejuvenate their tired nerves. The presence of lovely cottages and tiny huts bear testimony to its colonial past. |
